Steven Tyler Tells Friend He’s an ‘American Idol’ Judge

(Popeaters.com) - Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a friend of Steven Tyler told the Associated Press that the Aerosmith frontman is confirmed as a judge on the upcoming season of ‘American Idol.’

“While an official announcement about Tyler has yet to come from FOX and the producers of the top-rated show, the source told The Associated Press on Wednesday, ‘there is no reason to refute’ Tyler’s account,” the AP writes.

FOX did not comment on the report. Stay tuned to PopEater for developments!

Ellen DeGeneres left ‘Idol’ after just one season, announcing her departure weeks ago. Shortly after the report, news arrived that Kara DioGuardi had been fired — and that Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler looked like the replacements. While J.Lo has since reportedly been nixed, Tyler is now all but confirmed.

Has ‘American Idol’ run its course? PopEater asked New Yorkers — see the video:

Source: Jennifer Lopez Out As American Idol Judge

(People) - Jennifer Lopez won’t be a judge on American Idol after all, according to a source close to the situation.

The singer-actress had been closing a deal to be a permanent judge on the show for its upcoming 10th season but the deal fell apart.

“Her demands got out of hand,” says the source. “Fox had just had enough.”

With Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres both departing the talent search, the network had been pursuing a number of celebrities as potential judges, including Aerosmith‘s Steven Tyler.

But now that Lopez is out of the running, the network may be looking at their earlier top picks again.

Other reports have said that the panel could go back to the original three-judge format.

Fox had no comment. A rep for Lopez did not immediately return calls for comment.

Janet, Christina, and Fantasia Perform on ‘Idol’ Finale

Last night finale of “American Idol” was all about the ladies, and why shouldn’t it be? With performances by the legendary Janet Jackson, the vocal powerhouse Christina Aguilera, and the always timeless Fantasia… It kinda made the announcement of the winner seem irrelevant. Lee DeWyze was crowned, BTW.

Janet sang her latest song, “Nothing “, from her film Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married, Too? and also got the crowd pumped with her classic “Nasty “.  Janet’s appearance garnered some positive attention as she sported a new low-cut, slicked back doo, and went from a very dark cloak to a very sleek-body-hugging-catsuit.

Aguilera also performed her hit “Fighter ” and a ballad called “You Lost Me ” from her new album Bionic .

Last, but certainly not least, Fantasia brought them on to church with her rendition of “We Are One”

In OTHER ‘Idol’ news, The finale depicted Simon Cowell’s exit from the show, and also the lowest rated finale in the shows history, with only 24.2 million viewers tuning in. Althought that’s a huge number, that ANY network will skin someone alive for, it’s unusual for the show that some people think has lost it’s mojo. It’s actually a 16% drop from the 28.8 million people who watched last year.

What do you think? Has ‘Idol’ lost it’s juice?

Ellen Degeneres: Simon Is “Meaner Than I Thought”

Ellen, like everyone, knew how mean Simon Cowell could be, but she didn’t know how harsh and critical he could be until a recent taping of their show American Idol.

“He’s actually meaner than I thought,” Ellen told Entertainment Tonight. “It’s hard to listen to him tell people things and me not to go, ‘You poor thing!’”

Reports and rumors surfaced last week that Cowell, 50, was already clashing with DeGeneres, 52, who makes her American Idol debut Feb. 9.

At Ellen’s first taping, Cowell was more than an hour late — he had just confirmed he was leaving the show after this season — and DeGeneres insisted that they begin without him.

“When Simon showed up, he was pissy that they started without him,” a source tells the new Us Weekly (on newsstands now).

But Simon apologized shortly after, and DeGeneres “accepted it right away and was fine,” adds the insider.

DeGeneres also is “getting good at delivering bad news” to Idol wannabes, she says.

“I’m trying to do it in a tender way,” she tells Entertainment Tonight. “I hate hurting people’s feelings, so that, I think, is the hardest part.”

She says that there are “good people” this season, and she’s had to “fight very, very hard to keep the people that I believe in.”
